Freeing and Restoring Dignity for Bonded Laborers
What is bonded labor?
Bonded labor is a form of slavery in Pakistan. It is illegal but widely practiced. Under this system:
A worker (usually an adult male) takes a loan or advance payment called "peshgi" from an employer, contractor, or landlord.
The worker is then obligated to work for reduced wages until the debt is repaid.
Often, the debt is so large (because of extremely high interest rates that it cannot be realistically repaid, trapping the worker in the long term and passing it on to the next generation of servitude.
What we do.
We purchase the freedom for individuals and famlies…
CCN collaborates with churches and organizations in Pakistan to combat bonded servanthood, aiming to liberate individuals swiftly and advocate for an end to this illegal practice. Through the Freedom Fund, CCN supports the buyout of bonded laborer debt and the resettlement of those who find freedom as a result.
We work to remove the slavery mentality out of them…
Finding freedom from burdensome debt is only the beginning of the redemptive process for families who have spent years entrapped by its hold. Pakistani partners work to insure a fresh start for families that have been rescued to find safe community and respectable work for supporting their families.
What can we do together?
